HATS Back After Summer Break Aug 2008

We have returned to our regular Tuesday night meetings in Hampton after a much-needed Summer break. We have already voted in a new committee and over the next few weeks will be choosing a new comedy play to perform in the Spring 2009. We are also in the process of counting funds that was raised during our last show to present to our chosen charity Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall, which we will announce soon. Local newspaper report here.

NODA Hunstanton Drama Festival Success June 2008

The Hampton Amateur Theatre Society participated in the annual Noda East Hunstanton Drama Festival on Saturday 28th June at the Princess Theatre, Hunstanton. We performed 'Blue Suede Blues' by Diana Raffle having recently performed the play at our 2008 show 'Who Cares Wins'.

Big Congratulations, Kev!!

Two of our actresses were also short-listed for the 'Best Actress' cup: Julie Jordan as Grace Armstrong and Gisele Rawlins as Lily Bamber, and receive certificates of commendation. According to NODA this is probably the most difficult category to get short-listed in and the difference in marks between the top 16 women contenders was extremely close.

HATS will receive a full adjudication in due course but have been told by NODA that our "performance went very well and was a great credit to the group". Photos of our weekend in Hunstanton can be seen here. Local newspaper report here and here.

All Set for Show! June 2008

HATS on Hereward FMHATS appeared on the 102.7 Hereward FM  breakfast show on the morning of Thursday 19th June. We were promoting 'Who Cares Wins' and  indulging in some banter with DJ Kev Lawrence, who has a guest role in the play. Picture of us right with Kev Lawrence and his Hereward co-star Abbey.

HATS are all set for our comedy show 'Who Cares Wins' which runs for three nights between 19-21 June at 8pm. During this week's build-up we will be having technical and dress rehearsals. We are expecting a good turn-out for our first-night charity performance, proceeds from this night will be donated to Sue Ryder Care. Local newspaper reports here and here.

We'd like to thank our sponsors Hampton Gazette and especially Dennis Baldry at Serpentine Green shopping centre, who made a generous contribution to HATS show to enable us to put on this entertainment for the community.

Tickets are priced £5, £4 and £15 - on sale here.

No time for us to take a break after the show, as we will be gearing up the following weekend to participate in the NODA Hunstanton drama festival on June 28, where we will be entering the comedy play 'Blue Suede Blues'. A contingent of cast and supporters will be staying at a local holiday park for the weekend and this is when we expect to really let our hair down and celebrate the year's achievements so far!

Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Bed-Push Apr 2008

A HATS team was entered into the Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Sponsored Bed-Push to help raise funds for the hospice. Our team, 'The HATS Who Cares Wins Team', pushed our 'patient' (HATS mascot Terry) along a specially designed course between Long Causeway and Cathedral Square in Peterborough, with a few light hearted challenges along the way to test our nursing skills! Despite coming 15th out of 20 teams, we all had loads of fun. The event took place on Saturday April 5th. Big thanks to Eric, our Assistant Stage Manager, for organising.

Kev LawrenceHereward FM Breakfast DJ will be Special Guest Star Jan 2008

HATS are excited to announce that 102.7 Hereward FM breakfast show DJ Kev Lawrence will have a special guest-starring role in our forthcoming production 'Who Dares Wins'.

Kev has kindly lent his famous voice to one of the characters in the play, a hospital radio DJ. Our audience will be able to hear Kev's acting debut in a scene where the main character, Mr. Heim, is listening to hospital radio whilst injured in bed.

Kev said: "I'm really excited to be involved with this year's HATS production. The guys, I know, are a very talented bunch of people. Although my role in the play is off-tape, and although it is slightly different to my actual job on Hereward FM's Breakfast show, I was thrilled to be asked. I look forward to seeing the production and urge you to go and see it."
